Blog Post #10

An Open Letter To Educators

I know exactly what Morgan Bayda is talking about when she tells us about finding it hard to stay awake in some classes. I face this challenge every week. Teachers stand in front of the room and read straight off of their power point, or right of the book. I find it so frustrating because I am paying big bucks for my education that I could receive at home. I loved the video by Dan Brown and his point that he quit school because he feels that he is being cheated out of his education. When I experience this in the class room it just reminds me of the kind of teacher that I do not want to be. I will strive to encourage creativity in the class room. We have to make that step towards changing so our future generations are not left behind.

Don't Let Them Take Pencils Home

Way too often teachers focus on themselves and not the students. I had a teacher in fifth grade who genuinely cared about his students. We had so many interactive activities and he talked to us like we were actual humans. He is one of the reasons why I chose to become a teacher. My main focus will be my students and what is best for their education, and their future.

  1. Hi Hailey, I totally agree with your blog I said the same thing about Morgan's blog, teachers are there to teach, and they feel that they have to educate the students. Why has it come to that?
I also agree with your blog on Don't take the pencil Home, there are more important things to worry about, because a student decides to take a pencil home. Hailey you made a good point, it is all about the students and what is best for them I don't believe you could have express your views any clearer than that. I am a early child hood major and I interact with the children on a daily basis, so I know how it is when there is no interaction between the teacher and the student. Great blog Hailey!

  2. " I will strive to encourage creativity in the class room. We have to make that step towards changing so our future generations are not left behind." Good. That is my goal - to help make sure that happens!

It seems that you did not understand that Tom Johnson's post Don't Let Them Take the Pencils Home was a metaphor in which pencils were computers. I will complete my post Metaphors: What They Are and Why We Use Them (A Learning Opportunity) later this week. After this post appears on the Class Blog you will be required to leave a comment. Watch the Class Blog for further instructions.

  3. Hey Haley! I couldn't have said it better when you wrote "I find it so frustrating because I am paying big bucks for my education that I could receive at home." I am smart enough to be able to read a powerpoint or a book and absorb the knowledge that it contained in the pages. We are in college and made it here based on our own academics (I know that this doesn't apply to everyone)... Teachers needs to teach, not just read the material out loud. I will be sure to be just like you and make sure that "our future generations are not left behind."

Great post Haley! Keep up the hard work! Only 4 weeks left!!!
